We will hike along raging Himalayan creeks into forested valleys with the backdrop of giant mountains. During our hikes and visits to various villages, as you immerse yourself in this remarkable and stunning area, you will learn about the unique culture and traditional practices of this tribal community.

In this ethnographically rich landscape, you will meet families who practice fraternal polyandry, a marriage union where one woman marries a set of brothers, and a traditional survival strategy in Western Himalaya where land and labor were scarce. We will engage in conversations about recent historical events, environmental changes, including climate change and its social implications, that are burdening not just Kinnaur, but the whole of the Himalayan Region. You will have many opportunities to interact with Kinnauri people who will tell you tales of the past and their dreams of the future.

The trip will include hiking through beautiful apple orchards in different villages at various elevations (up to 12,500 feet). We will discuss environmental issues and observe how climate change is affecting the area while observing the migration of apple orchards to higher elevations and various landscape changes.
